SELECTED ARTISTS
All artwork purchased by Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin (PPWI) through the Forward Art Initiative is juried by staff at each location through an anonymous review and voting process. This deliberate approach ensures staff maintain a pivotal role in selecting artwork for their location; first by articulating the needs of their patients in the call for art, and then by voting on the submissions received to select art for purchase. This system is designed to elevate the voice of PPWI staff in identifying art, which is reflective of the communities they serve.
Welcome to Water Street Health Center
Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin’s newest and largest patient care facility was the first to receive artwork through the Forward Art Initiative program. Located in Milwaukee’s Harbor District, this beautiful state-of-the-art building is the anchor for compassionate, comprehensive and expert care provided to patients from across the state. From vasectomy services to gender affirming hormone therapy, birth control to STD/HIV testing, abortion to cancer screenings - it all happens here.
For almost 90 years Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin has been here for the community, providing care, no matter what. Through this pioneering art project, Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin will further honor all who visit its health centers today and for generations to come.
In the fall of 2023, PPWI purchased artwork from Wisconsin artists that empower, uplift and reflect the vibrant diversity of our state. Submissions for existing artwork as well as mural proposals were accepted. Artists who identify as BIPOC, LGBTQ+, Disabled or as part of Immigrant communities were highly encouraged to apply.
