PAIGE BAUSKE
Rose Farm Road, 12”x12”, 2023
Rose Farm Road is a woodcut relief print. It was inspired by my great grandfather who owned a rose farm that no longer exists. Roses have always been a symbol of love and beauty, which I see as having a connection to our bodies and the world more broadly.
Freedom and Self Love, 12”x12”, 2023
Freedom and Self Love is a woodcut relief print. While this is a self portrait, I believe it can represent anyone. In the image, I am giving myself a warm, gentle hug as a reminder to love myself first. The birds flying away represent freedom of oneself; the freedom of knowing who I am, what it feels like to love myself and feel empowered through that understanding.
Southside Milwaukee I, 12”x12”, 2023
Southside Milwaukee II, 12”x12”, 2023
Southside Milwaukee I & Southside Milwaukee II are a diptych, or two part woodcut relief print series. These prints feature the buildings and skyline of South Milwaukee from an apartment window. This artwork started as a small painting, and evolved into a wood cut. For me, the image explores how everything can feel small and simple from a distance.
Why Water Street?
Having my artwork at the Water Street Health Center means the world to me. Planned Parenthood has helped me through hard and stressful times, providing support when I’ve needed it. I think it is incredible to have access to free health care, especially for women’s health. Every staff member and doctor I’ve met has been kind and made me feel welcome and safe. I completely support Planned Parenthood and all people receiving the health care they need.
