Fantastic Adventures in Whimsyland, print of digital drawing, 36”x24”, 2023
Fantastic Adventures In Whimsyland is a charming land filled with happy experiences with endless possibilities. I drew this piece thinking about life and how all of us are on different adventures. There are many struggles we face but also there is a lot of love that surrounds us and can take us on amazing adventures.
Girl Power, print of digital drawing, 24”x27.5”, 2023
Girl Power is a piece I drew of my daughter. I wanted to capture her inner strength. I drew her in a place I created called Whimsyland. This is a place of many fantastic adventures to be experienced and full of many possibilities in life. It is a place full of wonder and optimism. This young girl is surrounded by beautiful patterned filled imagery and is gaining an inner strength of who she is. She is strong and developing her inner confidence in a place that embraces and nurtures who she is becoming.
Sweet Dreams, print of digital drawing, 36”x24”, 2021
Sweet Dreams is a drawing that is set in Whimsyland. This is a place of gratitude, love, peace and compassion. Being Hindu, the cow is a respected animal; it represents Mother Earth. In my drawing I wanted to capture the essence of goodness and gentleness and the cow came to mind. I drew a woman dreaming of this magical, kind full place of love for all living beings, surrounded by floral patterns whirling around in this surreal landscape.
Why Water Street?
I am so honored and grateful to have my works at the Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin’s Water Street Health Center. Creating my artwork is a very personal experience for me. I have had to deal with a lot of trauma in my life and making art has been essential for me in processing my own difficult experiences. It has helped pull me out from the darkness into the light. Creating Whimsyland within each piece is a blanket of love, light and possibilities. I am truly humbled that my art is on display in this health care facility. My hope is that in viewing my art the viewer will feel love and hope, especially in the difficult times.
More about the artist:
I am a South Asian American female professional artist that creates multi-faceted art. My love for patterns is strongly influenced by my heritage. Growing up with parents in India, we made many trips to visit family there. I draw using both realistic and pattern-filled imagery to create my vibrant, colorful, whimsical landscapes. My goals are to create artwork that takes the viewer on a fantastic journey to Whimsyland and to tell a story to my audience.
Five years ago, I left an abusive marriage. Having come from the darkness into the light, my artwork expresses the endless possibilities in life. Every day since then, I have been drawing, capturing my emotional journey, processing my trauma and seeing the many amazing adventures life has to offer, creating a magical place within each piece. When I am drawing, I illustrate the things around me both seen and unseen. Having my entire studio on my iPad makes it easy to create my art on the go, especially with my family’s busy schedule.
My work has dozens of layers of patterns and I spend countless hours drawing by hand, these elaborate whimsical landscapes. My art imagery is inspired by my everyday life and seeing my kids grow up and experience life around them.
