NOVA CZARNECKI

Inheritance, high resolution print on vinyl, 7’5”x9’, 2018

Inheritance speaks to the preservation of our planet, how its wellbeing is the ultimate inheritance we are leaving for our children. There is no greater treasure. By respecting and caring for nature for future generations, we remember who we are, where we came from, and connect with an indescribable sense of meaning behind it all.

Royalty, high resolution print on vinyl, 9’5”x10’5”, 2020

Royalty was painted in hopes of creating a resounding echo in each of us that says: “You are beautiful, you are deserving of all that is good, you are royalty.”

More about the artist:

I shape my art around trauma and memories, intertwining nature with figures to symbolize the interconnection of their inner and outer worlds. What emerges is something reborn. I like to focus on rebirth as beautiful, rich and vibrant. This transformation calls for attention and protection. I witness dualities as I paint; considering how something beautiful came to be while also sensing what might be right beneath the surface. While scavengers or hunters may be in a scene, perhaps they have become tamed or maybe they lie in wait.

I often use my friends or family as models in my work because I know and love them and can paint in healing prayer for them and for the many others they represent. This is an important part of my process and the source of my inspiration. I’ve painted my daughter many times to have her emerge triumphant over sexual assault, domestic violence and pain. I see myself in her too and many other women overcoming similar pasts. The animals, flora and fauna represent the cycle of living through violence and fear and finding strength there. I include pollinators in my work because they make all life possible. Small as they might be, they are mighty yet often unseen like the interconnectedness of us all.
